A Successful Career Driven by a Network of Diverse Colleagues, Customers and Mentors

“Every year more women are being put into leadership positions. Caterpillar, our customers and our dealers around the world are making an investment in diversity, and in women,” said Kristin Gaskill, Caterpillar Marketing Manager.? Gaskill began her career journey with Caterpillar a little over 10 years ago. At the time she said the number of women in her job area was fewer than it is now, but believed position would be a great opportunity.

Today, she is encouraged by the ever-changing climate in which we work.? “What makes me excited is that we continue to have encounter new business challenges and new opportunities to work through, but that is because, the next generation, the face of our customers is different, and it is changing. This requires a new school of thought, and a new way to think about things approach challenges. That is the only way we will sustain as a company, by continuing on this journey of diversity and balance,” she said.

During her tenure with Caterpillar Gaskill has had the opportunity to work with dealers and colleagues from around the world, and the exposure to those diverse audiences has broadened her perspective, and as she stated, has been a driving force behind her continued involvement with Caterpillar’s annual Women in Leadership conference. ?“The Women in Leadership Conference is an opportunity for leadership, dealers and customers to come together, collaborate and learn something new – ultimately allowing them to go back and do something differently and to address business challenges,” said Gaskill.

Today as Gaskill works with her current team to provide innovative solutions and services to our dealer network around the world, she continues to be inspired by the diversity journey our company is on.? “We have turned the idea of diversity into something positive.? My supervisor celebrates diversity – it is diversity of thought, not just of gender, he embraces the unique things people can bring to the group, which ultimately positions us to be successful on a global scale,” she said.

This year as Caterpillar, people and companies all over the world celebrate International Women’s Day and the ongoing journey to #BalanceForBetter – Gaskill reflects on the advice she would give her younger self, and any woman looking to enter the workforce: “be open to opportunities, do not put limits on yourself or let your conservativeness hold you back.? I am thankful I had great mentors along my journey pushing me to be the best version of me.? Everyone should understand the value of surrounding themselves with a strong and diverse network of people that will make you open to taking chances – and ultimately drive your success.”?

At Caterpillar, we respect the unique talents, experiences and viewpoints of all of our employees. Different perspectives help us achieve our best work and enable our company to make positive changes in the communities where we live and work. And that matters to us.
